Greyhound strays are a very common occurrence in the DFW area. Over 25% of the greyhounds brought into GALT's program have been strays. These strays are the most neglected - being abandoned and left to fend for themselves by the irresponsible behavior of some when their racing days are over. Often times greyhounds are used for coyote hunting and match racing, which is an illegal form of backyard greyhound racing.
It is not unusual for these greyhounds to be extremely malnourished, heartworm positive, suffer from an array of tick borne diseases and other debilitating parasites. These are the greys that need the most medical rehabilitation which translates into being the greys that require the most expensive treatment. Their lives are at risk if they are not rescued and nursed back to health.
Angel's Strays has been created in memory of Angel, beloved 14-year-old greyhound of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc. founding members, Susie and John McQuade. Angel was their first greyhound and became the driving force in their passion for this magnificent breed. Her spirit and their love for her will live on in their work with GALT. Angel's history, like many of GALT's strays, was never known because her right ear tattoo was illegible, so it is fitting that she is watching over them.
Please help GALT save the lives of stray or injured greyhounds by making a tax deductible donation, either directly online at the GALT GreytStore, through PayPal (click on the button below), or by sending your check to PO Box 680, Addison, TX 75001-0680 for Angel's Strays Fund. Donations to this fund may be used to assist other Greyhounds in need as outlined in our Mission Statement.

Have you reached your limit on household paws but would still like to help our hounds?
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas receives its greyhounds from many sources - breeders, trainers, owner releases, shelters, and strays. In addition to these sources, GALT operated for seven years as the exclusive adoption outlet for greyhounds retiring, grading out, and hurt at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX, a seasonal track that closed in April 2009.
Providing quality care for the hounds-in-waiting simply requires a lot of money. The average boarding stay for an adoptable hound is approximately 4 weeks. GALT's daily cost to board and care for hounds not in foster homes is $12 per day per dog which includes the following:
GALT provides each dog with the following items which are in addition to average daily expense per dog:
Help GALT's hounds who are waiting patiently in our boarding facilities by donating either directly online, through PayPal (click on the button below), or by sending your check to PO Box 680, Addison, TX 75001-0680 for the House a Hound Fund. Donations to this fund may be used to assist other Greyhounds in need as outlined in our Mission Statement. Even a donation for one day of boarding ($12) will help us help the hounds!

Miss Mesa, aka Mesa Red Babe, is the first greyhound adopted from GALT to make the journey to the Rainbow Bridge. It is in her memory that this fund was created.
Mesa was brought into the GALT family on October 14, 2001, at the age of 6 years, 9 months. She had only known life on the greyhound farm as a brood matron. From the beginning she was very, very special - a truly beautiful girl inside and out. Cindy and Ron Nichols fostered Mesa, and within a few weeks they knew she must join their family. On November 10, 2001, at "Paws for Posterity" Mesa was adopted into her forever home joining Cobbler, a 3-year-old male greyhound, Sam the cat, Cindy and Ron. She settled right in and enjoyed the life she so richly deserved.
However, there was a dark cloud hovering. Occasionally Mesa would have a limp, which was hoped to be just a sprain, but eventually was diagnosed as osteosarcoma. Mesa went to the Rainbow Bridge on February 1, 2002, just a few weeks after her seventh birthday. Miss Mesa spent only three months in her forever home in the loving care of the Nichols - three months in human time, but to her it was almost two canine years.....the best two years of her all-too-short life.
Cindy and Ron generously made a contribution to GALT to start the Miss Mesa Fund. Contributions to this fund will be used to pay the cost of medical care for those GALT greyhounds with special medical needs.
