URGENT EMERGENCY FUNDS NEEDED!
Valley Race Park in Harlingen has closed for this season, and GALT is working in conjunction with Greyhound Support of Kansas City and GPA Springfield, Missouri, to move approximately 64 greyhounds to adoption groups up north. GALT Chairman John McQuade, GALT President Noel Padden and GALTs Operations Manager in the Valley met with the tracks officials last month to discuss GALTs adoption representation at the track during the racing season from November to April of each year, and plans are being laid for the 2004 season.
The expense to get these greyhounds from Harlingen, which borders Mexico, the thousands of miles to waiting adoption groups, is exorbitant. GALT is soliciting funds from various greyhound support organizations. The cost for transportation alone is $75 per greyhound, translating to $4800. With expenses for security, kennel help, food and medical care until April 30th, the cost could easily be in excess of $7000. Verbal commitments have been received for $2200, but that leaves a huge deficient.
