Aubrey's Story

Aubrey

Earlier this year Aubrey, aka Christy Sloan, was abandoned at the "drop-off - no questions asked" area of the Amarillo Humane Society. At first the vet there thought she was about 8-9 years old because of the deplorable condition of her teeth, but after checking her tattoos, it was determined that she is only 4, born in May 1998. It is suspected that after washing out at the race track, Aubrey was used to "run rabbits", and that is where she suffered a leg injury that was completely ignored.

Because of this neglect, Aubrey now has Degenerative Joint Disorder in her wrists, especially the left, which is very painful to her. (The picture below highlights the swelling in her left leg due to the DJD.) Aubrey has been seen by specialists at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, and it is the consensus of all that surgery is the only long-term alternative to help her.

To quote the vet, "As the DJD is affecting all joints in the carpus, pancarpal arthrodesis is indicated." Estimates for this surgery are between
$1400 and $1800. Aubrey's chances of being adopted with this kind of medical future are slim to none, and she needs relief from the pain NOW.

An anonymous benefactor has generously offered to pay for half this surgery, but that leaves a hefty amount still left for GALT to raise. If you can help Aubrey, even with just a little or a lot, please send your check to GALT at P.O. Box 680, Addison, TX 75001 for the Miss Mesa Fund on behalf of Aubrey.

Her recovery is expected to take several months, with the first 12 weeks being the most critical. Updates on Aubrey's progress will be posted here periodically, so check back often.

Thank you to those of you who are helping with Aubrey's medical expenses.
