Roger Roger

Roger is a 5- to 7-year-old brindle male that arrived from Fort Worth Animal Control, where he was turned in as an owner release. Roger is not tattooed and his age is estimated by Dr. Jeff Ellis of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital. Roger is not cat tolerant.

Roger

Roger is an absolute delight to be around. He has a wonderful outgoing personality, and loves everyone. His tail wags like a helicopter when he meets people and plays. He is the most playful foster I have had, and loves throwing his squeaky toys, then pouncing on them. He is not the least bit destructive with them. He can be very mischievous, especially if he thinks I am not paying enough attention to him. He also likes to play with shoes, mostly tossing them in the air. The worst thing you can do is tell him he is a bad boy, and he pouts and sulks on his bed for a while.

He does quite well with smaller dogs; however, he is not cat tolerant at all. Surprisingly, he seems to be wary of medium to large-sized dogs.

Because he was in a home previously, Roger does have a couple of bad habits, but I am working on them. He will counter-surf given the opportunity (I keep the kitchen gated), and he loves to get on the bed to sleep. In fact, he would love to snuggle up at night if I allowed him. He does come to the side of the bed at bedtime for night-night kisses and hugs. However, when I tell him to go lie down, he will do so. He also likes to bark when he's excited, and since we live in a condo this is a no-no.

At the beginning, he was a little resistant to being crated. However, he is doing so much better. In fact, this morning when he saw me putting toys, kong and treats in his crate, he went in on his own accord. I also leave the TV on, and because my living room can get warm in the afternoons, I have a fan to help circulate the air since he seems to get warm and pant easily. He definitely does not like the heat, and as a result our walks are usually short. I’m sure this will change as the weather cools off, since he does seem to have a lot of energy.

All in all, Roger is a delightful dog and will make someone a great companion/playmate.
