Update 5/7/07
Lola has bounced back from her amputation like the champion she is. All of the swelling and fluid retention have gone away, and she only has a few sutures left. She is doing well in her foster home, and, as you can see in the picture below, her ears perked up when she saw the resident cat! She will start physical therapy in several weeks to help her adjust to life with 3 legs.

Update 4/28/07
Dr. Jeff Ellis performed surgery to amputate Lola's right rear leg on Tuesday, April 17. The necrotic condition of the foot area had steadily progressed with absolutely no hope for improvement or salvation. The surgery went well, and as expected, there is significant swelling and fluid pockets. She is adjusting to three legs, and is a trooper about getting up, down, and around. Dr. Ellis and the entire staff of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital are amazed at her braveness...she has not uttered a whimper during this whole ordeal. She will be kept at the hospital until at least this Saturday, when hopefully she will be released to her foster home.
