MESA FUND 2003 GALT Member of the Year
It just isn't enough for Susie McQuade to be the Member of the Month. For all she does to get GALT from one day to the next, there has to be more. Susie is the heart of GALT. She never rests. We could stop there because that really says it all. However, some of you do not know all that Susie does for this organization. Susie has many, many contacts in the greyhound world, made throughout her many years of greyhound adoption work. When anything needs to be done, Susie knows who to contact and figures out how to get it done. Susie, along with her husband, John, are founding members of GALT, having worked in greyhound rescue for many years prior to forming GALT. They have four greyhounds of their own, Angel, age 14; Katie Bonnet, age 10; Bob, age 8; and KoKa Mo, age 8. KoKa Mo was a GALT foster, so Susie, like most fosters, failed "fostering 101," too. Susie brings a wealth of experience and caring to this endeavor. She wants "to do it all." And she pretty much does it all - brings the dogs in, adopts the dogs out, cares for the dogs' medical needs, cares for the dogs' physical needs and most of all, is concerned about them every day. Susie has her finger in every part of GALT's operation. She helps plan every event, she raises funds, gathers auctions items, talks to vendors and anyone else who may want to help GALT. One of Susie's responsibilities is to receive greyhounds into GALT's system and make sure their medical needs are met. She is the liaison with Dr. Jeff Ellis and Dr. Amanda Florsheim. She coordinates all medical appointments and procedures, which is no small feat. She keeps a record of all medical procedures performed on every GALT dog as well as making sure copies of the pertinent medical records are in the hounds' adoption packages when they go to their forever homes. Susie is every GALT greyhound's "mama." She wants to do whatever she thinks each dog needs. She would keep every greyhound GALT receives if she could. She loves every one of them equally and with all her heart. She feels the pain of every sick and injured dog and rejoices with every happy adoption. She cries every time a beloved greyhound goes to the Rainbow Bridge. She gives her all to the greyhounds. Susie can probably tell you something about all 231(+) greyhounds that have been a part of GALT's program. It is because of her that GALT's dogs are so well cared for, including additional medical testing, receiving vitamins and other supplements. With Susie, the greyhounds' medical care is always first on her list. For all
she does, Susie only wants one thing in return - for each greyhound to
find a loving forever home. The next time you see her, tell Susie how
much you appreciate what she does and how much her heartfelt devotion
means to GALT and greyhounds everywhere. Tell her you hope she remains
the heart of GALT for many years to come. |
