Greyt Athletes
Benefit Dinner & Auction

April 2005
Lawry's The Prime Rib

Thanks to all who attended! IT WAS GREYT FUN!

The Fourth Annual Greyt Athletes Benefit Dinner and Auction was sold out again! How on earth does GALT do it?? Last year's dinner was tremendous, so this year's daunting task was how to top it! For starters, GALT added more greyt retired athletes to those already won over by the hounds, and we finished by raising even more money!

The wonderful staff at Lawry's The Prime Rib showed us once again just how much they care about their customers and a greyt cause. They provided a warm welcome not only to GALT's volunteers and 2-legged guests, but they opened their lovely courtyard to our honored 4-legged guests as well. In addition, they allowed GALT to showcase the fabulous air conditioned/heated Greyt Hauler so everyone could see the safety and comfort in which GALT's Greyhounds are transported. These extra touches, on top of their irresistibly mouth-watering menu, are just some of the reasons GALT went back to this wonderful restaurant for our Benefit Dinner. GALT is very grateful to Glazers Distributors for providing all the wine for this occasion.

Kris Schuster rallied volunteers early in the afternoon and coordinated not only all of the silent auction items and area, but choreographed the star-spangled dining tables. By 7:00 p.m. the mood was set and bidding on bling-bling and more began! Stunning jeweled originals, luscious baskets, antiques, artwork, exciting trips and gift certificates… the number of auctioned items was incredible, the selection included something for everyone, and best of all, it warmed hearts all around as each bid worked to help these incredible hounds we all love.

Our venerable Master of Ceremonies, Brady Tinker (host of "Sports Talk" on KFWD TV) guided us through interviews with the celebrities in attendance. Former Dallas Stars, 2-time Stanley Cup winner and GALT's Honorary Chairman, Craig Ludwig joined 3-time Stanley Cup winner Guy Carbonneau, and Stars play-by-play announcer/color analyst Daryl "Razor" Reaugh in raising funds for GALT's greyhounds. Dallas Cowboys' Quarterback Tony Romo shared his views from the gridiron and gave us all a taste of what it's like down on the field. Mark Followill (voice of the Dallas Mavericks) gave us his insight into the upcoming basketball season, while Marques Haynes of the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters, took us down memory lane to seasons past. There was open seating so each one of these gentlemen joined attendees at random tables and were very willing to share their time with everyone there.

Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, this year's event raised over $16,000. These funds will go directly to the care of GALT's precious Greyhounds. The food, the auction, the company… all were tremendous. But the love and care for each dog that is made possible by your generosity at this event is a feeling that should stay in your heart forever.

See you next year!
