Annie

I'll never forget the day we met. We were in the middle of Missouri - Dederick, Missouri, a tiny town of about 200. At a roadside flea market, piddling through the dusty knick-knacks and I heard the "click-click-click" of toenails on the cement floor. I looked up to see one of the most elegant, majestic, beautiful ladies I had ever seen. It turns out that Annie, three years old at the time, had wandered up to a farmhouse in the area about a year ago. The owner of the flea market was currently "feeding" Annie and that was about it! After sharing with him that my Mother had always wanted to rescue a greyhound, he said the now infamous line, "You can have her, collar and all." What was ironic about that statement was that the worn out old collar was so tight that I had already loosened it for her, not realizing at that time that she would soon become family.

Annie

In two weeks, we took her to her forever home to live with my Mother, Margaret Pennington in Benbrook, Texas. Annie had five years of tormenting her older brother Sparky, intimidating her younger sister, Ivy, both English Pointers, and sharing the couch with her little brother, Louis. She loved her tennis balls, going on walks, keeping her eye open for cats, but mostly, she loved her adoptive Mother and her family. Annie was very special to all of us and especially brought joy and love to my Mother. She beat heartworm in the summer of 2000. Even though Annie was diagnosed with bone cancer in the fall of 2004 she came through her leg amputation like a champ! She also endured chemo and never missed a beat. Sadly, we lost her suddenly on April 9th to heart failure.

Annie gave it her all and was brave throughout all of her ordeals. We will always remember her for her overwhelmingly sweet disposition, her beauty and elegance and how she greatly enriched our lives. We miss her terribly but love her even more.
