Macho
Macho

Update: 7/10/08

Macho, aka KD Bluberry Hill, is a handsome, large, 6 1/2-year-old white male greyhound born August 24, 2001. His sire is Dominator and his dam is Gable Limited, making his grand sire Wigwam Wag. Macho's racing record shows 32 races to his credit starting February 17, 2003, at Geneva Lakes in Wisconsin, and ending there on August 22, 2003. Macho was turned into an all-breed rescue group in Gainesville, TX, on March 27 by an individual who did not want him anymore. So his whereabouts these last 5 years is unknown; but one thing for sure is that Macho has had a rough time - two previous broken hocks, with the right hock being the worst, which causes him to limp, and he has multiple scars and wounds.

Macho

He arrived with a severly infected wound on his left hip, kennel cough, and his testing shows him to be positive to Ehrlichia at a substantial titer, as well as intestinal parasites. Before any treatment can begin for his Ehrlichia, Dr. Jeff Ellis of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital wants him to get over the kennel cough and wound infection. Macho's foster home reports he is a very sad, quiet boy who hasn't yet given a tail wag. It is not known at this time if Macho is small animal or cat tolerant.

Update 7/10/08
Macho completed his initial 6 weeks of medication for his Ehrlichia. His titer has dropped some, but not enough for Macho to be taken off IR. He has started another round of daily medication for the next six weeks. Hopefully this round will be completely successful!

Update 5/8/08
Macho is feeling better, and he has received his initial treatments for Ehrlichia, as well as he is on daily medication for the next 6 weeks. Dr. Ellis referred Macho to Dr. Bob Radash of the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center to review his previous broken right hock. Dr. Radash does not recommend doing anything at this time due to the Ehrlichia – the hock has calcified fairly substantially. At this time it is not known if surgery is an option for Macho.
